City Council 2012-2013 Goals and Objectives
The City of American Canyon is a general law city, governed primarily by the laws of the State of California and by its own ordinances and regulations. Per the City of American Canyon Municipal Code, the City Council is comprised of a directly elected mayor and four elected council members. The City of American Canyon holds a general municipal election in November of even-numbered years. The office of mayor is up for election every two years. The candidate running for mayor that receives the highest number of votes is elected to this office. Two council member seats are up for election every two years and each member serves a term of four years. The two candidates that receive the highest number of votes are elected to these offices each election. There is no limit to how many terms a person may serve as mayor or as a council member.
Members of the City Council also serve as the Board of Directors for the American Canyon Fire Protection District. The City Council and the Board of the Fire District hold regular joint meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 4381 Broadway Street. The Board of Directors of the Fire District also meets on the fifth Tuesday of any month at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The Council and the Board generally hold joint closed session meetings at 5:30 p.m. prior to their regular meetings and may call special meetings as needed.

Meetings of the American Canyon City Council and Fire District Board will be held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the Month at 5:30 p.m. for Closed Session matters at the City Offices at 4381 Broadway, Suite 201 and 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 4381 Broadway, Suite 201, unless otherwise noted. These meetings are broadcast live on public access cable Channel 28 and are also accessible live via streaming video using the link above.
