Purpose of the Plan
Highway 29 between Napa and Vallejo is one of the most significant transportation corridors in Napa County. Within American Canyon, Highway 29 serves as the city's main thoroughfare and must provide access to places visited by local residents as well as regional customers. A planning effort is underway to not only reduce traffic congestion but also to make the highway corridor friendlier for pedestrians and bicyclists.
A project, funded by a $300,000 Caltrans grant is underway to bring together various stakeholders from throughout the County and our local community. The effort will look at traffic relief as well as the design of bike routes, pedestrian crossings and ways to help speed bus service from Napa to the Vallejo ferry terminal. Individuals will be given several opportunity to get involved including the Advisory Committee discussed below as well as community workshops.
