Preparing for Rainstorms
During heavy rain, American Canyon is subject to flooding problems along our natural creeks and drainage that traverse the area. We encourage our residents to proactively prepare for the storms which can cause flooding and power outages.
We may experience minimal flooding (pooling) in low lying areas. Please drive slowly and use caution in areas where flooding is apparent. If heavy rains and flooding threatens our community, we will share tips on what to do and updates on storm conditions via Nixle, our website, City Manager Updates, Facebook, and Nextdoor.
If you see downed wires or a hazardous situation, call 911 immediately. All other problems, such as clogged storm drains and downed trees, may be reported by calling (707) 995-8674.
We host self-serve sandbag stations year round at two locations. All you need to bring are gloves and a shovel! If your property has experienced water runoff into your home or driveway you are encouraged to be prepared by seeking sand and sandbags should you need them. We encourage you to fill up in advance of a significant rain event rather than wait until flooding issues occur.
